Whether it’s for some gift shopping or simply to look around, the winter markets taking place during December will have everything you are looking for. Let yourself be transported to a world where hot cocoa, twinkling lights and deliciously wrapped little knick-knacks are available at every corner. Our favourites include the Village de Noël de Montreal and Le Grand Marché de Noël. With its light shows, winter activities and art installations, Montreal en Fêtes is another must-see. It is also divided in three locations, so you are sure to find one that’s closer to you !
To Be Transported in a Parallel Wintery Universe
Often synonymous with childhood memories, these plays and shows will get you in the holiday spirit in no time. The Nutcracker is at the top of our list ; with its stunning decor and beautiful ballet performances, you’ll be picking your jaw up from the floor at the end. If you want to sing your heart out and bask in true holiday cheer, look no further. A Charlie Brown Christmas Concert and Décembre are two other options that you’ll adore. For our fans of classical music, the Orchestre Symphonique offers many holiday concerts that’ll bewitch you, body and soul.
To Practice Canada’s National Sport
No winter activity list would be complete without mentioning the best skating spots ! Nothing will get you in the Holiday spirit quite being on skates with the cold wind biting your cheeks. We particularly love the skating rink on the Esplanade Tranquille. Right in the middle of downtown Montreal and with many coffee shops nearby to get warm afterwards, it’s the perfect spot. The ice-skating rink on Beaver Lake, on the Mont-Royal, is also a true classic. If you fear you might get too cold, then Atrium Le 1000 is perfect for you : you’ll get to skate inside, protected from the elements.
